New podcast!

Whether you’re curious about getting healthy, the Big Bang or the science of cooking, find out everything you need to know in under 30 minutes with Instant Genius. The team behind BBC Science Focus Magazine talk to world-leading experts to bring you a bite-sized masterclass on a new subject each week.

What are 'The Winter Blues?'

As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, many of us find ourselves feeling a little less jolly and a bit more sluggish than usual. The triad of symptoms which define the winter blues are: increased sleepiness, lack of energy and increased appetite.

For some of us these feelings can become so severe that they are classed as a form of depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

This can have a significant impact on our daily habits, relationships and ability to perform at our best.

In this episode, I spoke to journalist Jason Goodyer about light therapy and other solutions.

We talked about how exposure to daylight affects our mood, why it’s natural to want to hunker down during the colder, darker months and how going on a daily morning walk can help us all to lift our spirits.

Been using Nano Banana Pro for AI image generation recently. The Pro version handles more complex prompts and delivers sharper results — still powered by Gemini under the hood. Great for concept art and style experiments without any local setup.

'New podcast!' – sounds interesting! I'm grabbing a coffee and checking this out on Spotify right now. I hope it helps me deal with these winter blues; maybe that daily morning walk is the key, eh?significant figures calculator
